Astrocartography: The Astrology of Where to Live

Astrocartography Just Dropped in Star Path

And it's not like anything you've used before.

Here's what I mean.

Most astrocartography tools give you a map covered in lines and symbols.

You squint at it.
Google what the symbols mean.
Try to figure out which cities are “close enough” to matter.
Manually calculate ranges.
Switch maps every time you want to check your partner’s chart.

It’s tedious.

Star Path Does the Astrocartography Work for You

We made it easy, clear, and actually fun to use.

Hover over any line to instantly see what it means
Click a line to see its range of influence (no guessing, no math)
Draw a line to any city to see how far away it is—and how strongly you'll feel that energy
Switch between charts without resetting the map (check your whole family in seconds)
Ask questions and get instant analysis:
“What would Miami feel like?” or “Where should I go for better health?”

No decoding symbols.
No protractors.
No wasted time.

Find the “Right Time, Right Place”

Want to take this even further?

Layer astrocartography with transits.

Find the best time to make a move (transits), then find the best place to make it happen (astrocartography).

We call this the double whammy.

It’s how you 2× the cosmic support in your corner.

Perfect for:

  • Big moves
  • Wedding dates
  • Career shifts
  • Major life decisions

Right timing + right location = maximum leverage.

New to Astrocartography? Here’s a Primer

Astrocartography is a relatively modern branch of astrology, developed in the 1970s by Jim Lewis.

It quite literally maps your birth chart onto the world.

The map shows which places amplify specific energies in your life based on where your planetary lines cross the Earth.

Today, it’s considered one of the most practical and tangible ways to use astrology—especially if you're:

  • Considering a move
  • Planning travel
  • Trying to understand why certain cities feel like home (or not)

How Astrocartography Works

At the moment you were born, the planets and key angles in your chart (like your Ascendant and Midheaven) aligned with specific locations across the globe.

Astrocartography maps those positions into planetary lines.

When you live or travel near one of these lines, that planet’s energy becomes more active in your life.

That can influence things like:

  • Your experiences
  • Relationships
  • Career
  • Health
  • Personal growth

For example:

  • A Venus line might attract love, beauty, and creativity.
  • A Saturn line could push you to build something slowly and seriously over time.

Every line activates something different.

Depending on where you live, you might experience more ease in certain areas of life—or more challenge and growth.

Sometimes, moving to a new astrocartography line can completely shift the trajectory of your life.

Two Easy Ways to Use It

1. Explore the map in your sidebar

Move around the map, hover over lines, and explore different regions of the world.

2. Ask about it in chat

Just ask something like:

“Should I move to Austin?”

And Star Path will analyze it instantly.

(Pro tip: desktop gives you the full experience, but mobile works too.)

Try These 3 Things First

1 — Check Your Current City

Hover over the place where you live and see which planetary lines you're near.

Ask:

“Why does [my city] feel the way it does for me?”

You may finally understand why certain places just click—and others don’t.

2 — Explore Your Dream Destination

Zoom into somewhere you’ve always wanted to go.

Maybe Bali. Paris. Tokyo.

Click the nearby lines and ask:

“What would living in [city] feel like for me?”

See if the astrology matches the vibe you’re chasing.

3 — Compare Cities for Your Whole Family

Planning a move or vacation?

Find a city.
Check your chart.

Then switch to your partner’s or kids’ charts without resetting the map.

Now you can see how one location affects everyone in seconds.

This is our #1 most requested feature.

And honestly?

I spent an entire day playing with it because it’s that fun.

Ways You Can Use Astrocartography

You can use astrocartography to:

  • Plan your next move
  • Pick a vacation spot that actually recharges you
  • Choose a wedding location
  • Understand why a place felt “off” (or amazing)
  • Find the best city for your next chapter

Happy mapping!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is astrocartography, and how does it work?

Astrocartography is the astrology of places. By layering your birth chart onto the world map, you turn planetary placements into "lines" - each of which activates the energy of a specific planet. For example: if you live on your Saturn MC line, you'll build your career over time. If you live on your Venus DSC line, you'll experience more harmony in your love life. Star Path is an AI astrology chat platform, so you can explore your astrocartography chart dynamically. Click on a line, measure how far it is from certain cities, and ask open-ended questions like "Where's the best place to live for my health?" Star Path's AI astrologer will consult our ephemeris, use advanced software specific to astrocartography to pull the right data for the AI to reference, and give you a deeply personalized reading. You can then interact with it through chat.

What house system should I use for my birth chart?

Star Path lets you use either a Whole Sign or Placidus house system - and you should pick the one that resonates most with your life experience. Here are some details to help you choose: Whole Sign is the oldest house system (used by the ancient Greeks). It treats all life areas equally, and gives each a single zodiac sign. For that reason, some people find that it captures the soul's journey in a deeper, more archetypal way. That's why it's our personal favorite at Star Path. Placidus is a "modern" house system (invented in the 1600's). It uses different-sized, time-based houses that contain 1, 2 or more signs. Some people find it to be more accurate, especially for "mundane" matters like planning, because individual charts have more variance (and the interpretation has more layers). The truth is, there's no right or wrong house system when it comes to astrology; there's only the system that feels most true for you. Start with one, explore another, and with time, you might even use both for different aspects of life. In our experience, Whole Sign can be more beginner-friendly, so it's a great starting point if you're new too astrology. But why not try them all?

Why is Star Path better than Chani, The Pattern, and AskSoma.ai?

When it comes to AI astrology, Star Path is frequently compared to apps like Chani, the Pattern and Co-Star. But the truth is, Star Path is more than an AI astrologer: it’s a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. Traditional astrology apps like Chani and Co-Star feed you astrology; an AI chat platform like Star Path helps you use astrology in daily life. While mainstream astrology apps might help you understand who you are, Star Path lets you go deep so you can reach for your goals, heal what's holding you back, and tactically plan out your next steps (e.g. launches, vacations, big decisions). And because Star Path lets you chat extensively with other people's charts, you can even use our AI astrology platform to improve your relationships. Star Path leverages dynamic, advanced astrology tools for transits, synastry and astrocartography, so you can ask free-form questions (like, "where's the best place to live for career?", or "what's the best timing for me to move?") and explore in-depth answers. You get to guide your own experience, which can feel very different from astrology apps that provide more static information.

What's the difference between Whole Sign & Placidus?

There are many house systems in astrology - and each is good at different things. Whole Sign (the OG house system) uses equal house sizes - and gives each a single zodiac sign. Placidus (a "modern" house system from the 1600's) defines house size based on time - giving them different sizes, and potentially multiple zodiac signs. In some ways, Whole Sign is simpler because it lacks interceptions (i.e. signs that are sandwiched in between two other signs, all in a single house), and gives each life area a single guiding theme. But this can also make it a very powerful system when exploring the deepest yearnings of a soul in this lifetime - the core needs & experiences we're here eto have. Placidus, in contrast, has more complex, layered interpretations. In the view of evolutionary astrologers, having multiple signs in a single house can show us how a life area "evolves" over time. This can be useful as we move through life, and step into new versions of who we are (especially with regard to themes like money, or love, or career). The beauty is: you can use Whole Sign & Placidus together. In fact, the Star Path team believes this is the best way to explore personal growth - because switching systems takes us out of a "story", or echo chamber, and invites us to look at ourselves from multiple perspectives. You might find that Whole Sign resonates most with you during one season of life, and Placidus feels "right" 10 years later. Or, you might prefer planning with Placidus, but personal growth with Whole Sign. Our recommendation: explore both. See what lands, leave what doesn't. And remember...astrology is just a tool for evolution (you're still in charge).
