How to create cross-chat memory in Star Path

How to create cross-chat memory in Star Path

Unlike other astrology apps (even the ones that use AI), Star Path is a full-scale AI chat platform built on your birth chart - so it comes with cross-chat memory. But there’s a catch: you have to set it up yourself.

Here’s why:

Star Path takes a human-forward, environmentally-friendly (and human conscious) approach to AI memory.

If you’ve used other AI platforms like ChatGPT or Claude, you’ve probably noticed they remember what you’ve said across all your chats.

Star Path doesn’t do that, for 3 reasons:

#1 - Most of what you’ve told your AI is totally irrelevant to whatever you’re talking about now. And it’s very frustrating when Claude mentions your kid’s behavior issues in a business chat.

That’s why we let you pick your cross-chat memory - so Star Path remembers what matters.

#2 - It’s terrible for the environment.

In the world of AI, words = “tokens”. And tokens = energy use.
More memory = more energy use.
Curated memory = right energy use.

#3 - Automatic AI memory - by its very nature - reflects an old version of you. And that can hold back your growth. Star Path is designed to facilitate growth through astrology, so we believe pattern-matching who you were a month ago can actually hinder your evolution.

You deserve to be in the driver’s seat - of your AI use, your impact, and your evolution.

So in Star Path, you curate your own cross-chat memory with Digital Altars - folders with memory - and you decide what they remember.

You can use Digital Altars to:

  • Save messages you want to come back to
  • Create cross-chat memory for all chats in that folder
  • Add custom instructions to give that folder a job (like a GPT)

Here’s how to set them up.

How to create cross-chat memory with a Digital Altar

Step 1: Set up your Digital Altar

To create an altar, click "+ New Altar" in your sidebar, and give it a name.

Then, move existing chats into that altar by clicking the "..." to the right of any chat and selecting "Move to new altar". Or, start a new chat in that altar by typing in the message box on that screen.

Step 2: Add cross-chat memory

#1 - Bookmark an Oracle reply by clicking the bookmark icon below a Star Path message:

It'll auto-add to your altar's memory - and every chat in that folder will use it.

#2 - Edit memory inside your altar by clicking the pencil icon.

![💡][image1] Pro Tip: Keep it short. Less is more when it comes to AI.

Step 3: If you want your altar to perform a “job”, give it custom instructions.

Some altars just need memory.
Others need to do a job.

For example:
I have an "Business" altar.

This is where I tell Star Path all about...well...Star Path (yes, I know it's meta):what it is, who I serve, what I sell, and what my strategic goals are this quarter.

I can use it for strategy, planning or marketing, and I never have to re-explain what I do.

But my Business Altar doesn't have custom instructions.

My "Challenger" Altar does.

I go to my Challenger Altar when I need to get out of my echo chamber.

It's great for deep up-levels,moments where I'm spiraling,
or when I really don't want AI to pander to me.

If you want a Challenger altar, add these instructions:

You are my Challenger. Your job is to call out my blind spots, challenge my assumptions, and get me out of my echo chamber. Look at what I'm saying - then point out what I'm not considering, so I can get a more objective view of a situation.

Still feeling lost? Here are some other ways to use your Digital Altars

Our 3 favorite ways to use Digital Altars

1 - The “All About Me” Altar

Include basic details about you, your journey, and anything you want Star Path to know about you generally (e.g. health stuff, career stuff, where you're at in life right now).

This is the "Star Path knows me" approach.

2 - The Workstation

Pick a topic related to a goal - like business, or health, or love. Add the details Star Path needs to know on repeat (like your biz mission / products / customers, or your health history / what you've tried / what you're dealing with now).

Every chat in your altar will now remember what you saved - so you can start fresh chats frequently (which boosts your message limit), without losing what you need to carry over on a particular topic.

3 - The altar that does a job

Pick a task you do on repeat - like a new moon forecast, or meal prep. Add your preferences to memory, and add custom instructions about the "job" you want performed. This lets your Digital Altar behave like a custom GPT in ChatGPT or Claude.

Star Path is an AI platform built on astrology (not an “ai astrology app”) - so we combine powerhouse AI tech features with the heart and soul of your favorite astrologer.

Instead of baking in automatic cross-chat memory, we take a more human-centered, earth-forward approach by letting you curate what Star Path remembers through Digital Altars.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many messages can I send with each plan?

Star Path doesn't actually have limits on a specific number of messages; instead, we have limits on how much actual AI energy is being used (and they re-set on a rolling 5-hour basis). As a rule of thumb, our Max plan gets you 4x the AI usage of Pro. In the AI world, energy \= tokens \- and tokens depend on a few things: length of the message you're sending, what LLM you're using behind the scenes (some are more energy intensive than others), and how much "memory" is being pulled into that message. So, if you paste a transcript into Star Path, even though it's one "message", it might have a lot of tokens. Interesting, the \#1 driver of energy use is actually memory\! When people starting hitting message limits frequently (or quickly), it's almost always because they've been chatting with a single, super long thread \- and so there's a massive amount of memory that gets pulled into each subsequent message. When you hit message limits, you can do a few things: * **Upgrade to the next plan level** to continue chatting immediately. Or, * **Wait a few hours, then come back** to continue chatting. Usage limits operate on a 5-hour rolling basis, so they'll open up again later that day. The good news is, there are 2 simple ways to decrease your energy use & boost your message limit: \#1 \- **Start a new chat**, rather than chatting with a really long one. Here's a pro tip: to optimize your usage limits, start fresh chats frequently. Long chats \= more memory \= higher AI usage. If you start fresh ones, you will dramatically cut down on how much Oracle energy you're using. \#2 \- **Create a Digital Altar.** If you have certain key pieces of info you need Star Path to remember (but you want to avoid using a single long chat), you can curate the memory of a specific folder. This is actually the best way to optimize Star Path, both from a energy use perspective and the quality of the results you'll get. Super long chats create a lot of what we call "junk memory", but when you create a Digital Altar, you can add only what's important (plus custom instructions), then start fresh chats in that folder that share your pinned memory. [Watch this tutorial on how to set up a Digital Altar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib6VBMisOQI) My recommendation is to try out \#1 and \#2. I think you'll be amazed by how many more messages you can send when you simply start new chats, and leverage a Digital Altar.

Why is Star Path different from other AI astrologers?

The Pattern, AskSoma.ai, and Sanctuary are astrology apps that use AI. Star Path flips the script: it's a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. This means you can use it just like ChatGPT or Claude - for therapy, business strategy, or self-discovery - with all the features of an AI chat platform (plus the rigorously accurate math of a professional astrologer). This lets you go deeper, and immediately use what you learn about your birth chart in practical ways.

Why is Star Path better than Chani, The Pattern, and AskSoma.ai?

When it comes to AI astrology, Star Path is frequently compared to apps like Chani, the Pattern and Co-Star. But the truth is, Star Path is more than an AI astrologer: it’s a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. Traditional astrology apps like Chani and Co-Star feed you astrology; an AI chat platform like Star Path helps you use astrology in daily life. While mainstream astrology apps might help you understand who you are, Star Path lets you go deep so you can reach for your goals, heal what's holding you back, and tactically plan out your next steps (e.g. launches, vacations, big decisions). And because Star Path lets you chat extensively with other people's charts, you can even use our AI astrology platform to improve your relationships. Star Path leverages dynamic, advanced astrology tools for transits, synastry and astrocartography, so you can ask free-form questions (like, "where's the best place to live for career?", or "what's the best timing for me to move?") and explore in-depth answers. You get to guide your own experience, which can feel very different from astrology apps that provide more static information.

How can I best use Star Path to change my life?

This is perhaps our favorite question ever! Star Path is designed to help you go as deep into growth as you want go, as fast as you want to get there. It all comes down to how much you chat, and what questions you ask. The easiest "portal" is to simply start by sharing what's happening in your life, and asking questions from a place of curiosity. If it's career, you might ask "What's the highest expression of my career?". If it's love, you might ask "What do I really need to feel loved?". Star Path will give you the insights, and offer some actions - so take what you learn, and ask Star Path to help you apply it to real life. We're big believers that self-knowledge is great, but action is better - so you can go wild exploring a pattern in your chart or your life, but it's also important to step away and actually live what you learn as well :)
