How to use transits to plan a big conversation

In astrology, transits can be used to plan almost anything, from wedding dates, to business launches, to big conversations. When it comes to communication, transits can help you pick the best time to make tricky conversations easier, and big asks more likely to get a "yes". But why use astrology for planning a chat?

We've all been there.

The "can I have a raise" talk with your boss. The money talk with a partner. The "behavior" talk with your kid's teacher. The "I need to share some news" talk with a family member.

Maybe you're trying to open a door. Or maybe you've been avoiding a really difficult conversation...because it never feels like the right time.

The good news is: according to astrology, there's a "right time" for everything 😉

We call this transits: the movement of the planets & asteroids around your birth chart (which is static). Transits change all the time, and when it comes to communication, we feel them strongly (ehem...Mercury retrograde).

So it's no surprise that timing tricky (or "big ask") conversations is one of the top ways I see the Star Path community use transits.

##Why use transits to plan big conversations

Communication is hard. Sometimes, we don't know how the other person is going to respond.

  • Are they in a good mood?
  • Will they be receptive to what I have to say?
  • How do I avoid picking a day where they're over-worked and under-enthused?

With astrology, we can look at how the cosmic weather (i.e. the planets moving around someone's birth chart) affects things like mood, opportunities, and even our desire for connection vs. alone time.

Ideally, you'll plan a big conversation for a day when the other person feels good, and actually wants to connect.

  • If you're dealing with a difficult family situation, you might want a supportive Venus aspect to promote connection.
  • If you're making a big business deal, you might want some help from Saturn (for longevity), or Jupiter (for expansion), or maybe even your 10th house ruler.
  • If you're telling your story (like for a podcast, or a blog), you might want to plan it for a jazzy Mercury day (not a retrograde).

We have people in our community who use Star Path to plan their pitches - finding windows of opportunity for when people are most likely to say "yes" - and others who use transits to pick the right day to call an estranged family member.

##How key transits affect communication

Every planet rules something different: Venus rules connection, while Mars rules drive & conflict. When planning a conversation with transits, you'll want to pick a transit involving a planet ruling the qualities you want in that chat (e.g. Venus for harmony, or the Sun for visibility) - or related to the outcome you're trying to create (e.g. Jupiter for a raise, Saturn for a big career move).

Planet When to Use it For a Conversation
Sun Declaring something important. Stepping into visibility or leadership. Confident asks, launch announcements, or anytime you need clarity and authority.
Moon Navigating emotional moments. Addressing feelings, closure, family talks, or anything that requires softness and empathy. Great for vulnerability and validation.
Mercury Clarity and precision. Negotiations, sharing information, sorting out details, decision-making, or addressing misunderstandings. But double-check if it’s retrograde.
Venus Bringing harmony or repair. Apologies, feedback with care, collaborations, creative partnerships, or making heartfelt requests feel safe.
Mars Addressing conflict or taking a stand. Setting boundaries, airing grievances, high-stakes asks, or calling something out directly. Best for clarity over comfort.
Jupiter Pitching opportunities or big-picture ideas. Mentorship, vision-setting, expansion talks, or strategic risk-taking with optimism. Moves things forward.
Saturn Serious talks. Accountability, commitment decisions, constructive feedback, contracts, endings with integrity, or asking for respect. Grown-up energy only.
Uranus Breakthroughs and paradigm shifts. Disrupting the status quo, liberating honesty, coming out moments, or anything that breaks open new thinking. Expect surprise.
Neptune Compassion-led or soul-based conversations. Healing, forgiveness, creative inspiration, or spiritual connection. Beautiful for resolution, but not for facts and figures.
Pluto Deep truth and shadow work. Power dynamics, raw honesty, trust repair, transformation talks, or exposing what's been hidden. Heavy but healing.

The planet's just the first piece of the puzzle. Next, we layer in aspects (the relationships planets make to each other in your chart) - especially those affecting your natal planets related to communication, or harmony, or career (depending on what your conversation is about).

Here's a basic blueprint for planning a conversation with transits:

  1. Identify the topics of the conversation. Romance? Money? Career?
  2. Find the planets, houses & signs associated with those topics.
  3. Look at how various transits affect those planets, houses and signs in your birth chart - especially the ruling planets. A Pluto transit to your MC (your primary career point) might create a big job change - so might actually support a job interview, even though Pluto isn't traditionally associated with career (unless you have a Scorpio MC or 10th house, it which case it's your career ruler).
  4. Look at the transiting planets associated with the topic of your conversation, particularly if they're touching a house related to that chat. If you have Venus lighting up your 7th house, it's a great time to talk with your romantic partner. If Saturn is hitting your career house, you could have that promotion talk...but you'll have to back it up with proof that you deserve it.

If you're new to astrology, transits can be a bit of a rabbit hole. There are lots of layers and moving pieces (literally). That's why we built Star Path's transits tool. It lets you ask a question, no astrology knowledge required, and will pull the right transits data for you.

Here's how to do it with Star Path.

##Two ways to plan a chat with transits

###1 - Look at your own personal transits.

First, ask Star Path about your best timing windows: I need to plan a conversation about [INSERT DETAILS] with [DESCRIBE THE PERSON]. The outcome I want is [DESCRIBE HOW YOU WANT IT TO GO]. Look at my transits for [INSERT DATE RANGE]. Tell me the best timeframe for this chat.

Don't skimp on the details. The specific emotions & outcomes you share will change the transits Star Path looks for!

That's because every planet, sign, and house is linked to different things - so if you're looking for more connection, you need a very different transit than you do for a raise.

###2 - Next, look at their transits.

If you have their birth info, add it to Your Circle and start a new chat with their chart. Ask Star Path: I need to have a conversation with [INSERT NAME] about [INSERT DETAILS]. Here's what I know about them: [INSERT DETAILS]. The outcome I want is [DESCRIBE HOW YOU WANT IT TO GO]. Look at their transits for [INSERT DATE RANGE]. Tell me the best timeframe for this chat.

That's it. Star Path will check their transits, and give you a selection of date ranges - no astrology knowledge required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I best use Star Path to change my life?

This is perhaps our favorite question ever! Star Path is designed to help you go as deep into growth as you want go, as fast as you want to get there. It all comes down to how much you chat, and what questions you ask. The easiest "portal" is to simply start by sharing what's happening in your life, and asking questions from a place of curiosity. If it's career, you might ask "What's the highest expression of my career?". If it's love, you might ask "What do I really need to feel loved?". Star Path will give you the insights, and offer some actions - so take what you learn, and ask Star Path to help you apply it to real life. We're big believers that self-knowledge is great, but action is better - so you can go wild exploring a pattern in your chart or your life, but it's also important to step away and actually live what you learn as well :)

How many messages can I send with each plan?

Star Path doesn't actually have limits on a specific number of messages; instead, we have limits on how much actual AI energy is being used (and they re-set on a rolling 5-hour basis). As a rule of thumb, our Max plan gets you 4x the AI usage of Pro. In the AI world, energy \= tokens \- and tokens depend on a few things: length of the message you're sending, what LLM you're using behind the scenes (some are more energy intensive than others), and how much "memory" is being pulled into that message. So, if you paste a transcript into Star Path, even though it's one "message", it might have a lot of tokens. Interesting, the \#1 driver of energy use is actually memory\! When people starting hitting message limits frequently (or quickly), it's almost always because they've been chatting with a single, super long thread \- and so there's a massive amount of memory that gets pulled into each subsequent message. When you hit message limits, you can do a few things: * **Upgrade to the next plan level** to continue chatting immediately. Or, * **Wait a few hours, then come back** to continue chatting. Usage limits operate on a 5-hour rolling basis, so they'll open up again later that day. The good news is, there are 2 simple ways to decrease your energy use & boost your message limit: \#1 \- **Start a new chat**, rather than chatting with a really long one. Here's a pro tip: to optimize your usage limits, start fresh chats frequently. Long chats \= more memory \= higher AI usage. If you start fresh ones, you will dramatically cut down on how much Oracle energy you're using. \#2 \- **Create a Digital Altar.** If you have certain key pieces of info you need Star Path to remember (but you want to avoid using a single long chat), you can curate the memory of a specific folder. This is actually the best way to optimize Star Path, both from a energy use perspective and the quality of the results you'll get. Super long chats create a lot of what we call "junk memory", but when you create a Digital Altar, you can add only what's important (plus custom instructions), then start fresh chats in that folder that share your pinned memory. [Watch this tutorial on how to set up a Digital Altar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib6VBMisOQI) My recommendation is to try out \#1 and \#2. I think you'll be amazed by how many more messages you can send when you simply start new chats, and leverage a Digital Altar.

What can I use astrocartography for?

You can use astrocartography to plan trips, start new chapters in life, or create experiences that activate different parts of who you are (or who you could be). Because astrocartography is essentially your birth chart layered onto the globe, the energy of planets intersects with places - so you can use it to find places that'll amplify your career, your love life, or even your health and healing. Some popular applications of astrocartography include choosing places to visit or live - especially ones that align with goals you're pursuing, experiences you want to have, or even big transits.

What’s the best way to use this software if I want to eventually become an astrologer myself?

Step one of an astrology journey is to understand yourself. Truly, understanding how different placements, aspects, and transits show up in your own life will give you the most embodied knowledge of how astrology "works". Once you get it for yourself, it's easier to apply it for others (which you can do by chatting with Star Path about people you add to Your Circle). That being said, we also offer Astrology 101 classes as part of our Pro+ plan - so if you want to start a formal learning process, that's a great place to begin.
