Star Path now offers Whole Sign & Placidus House Systems

Star Path now offers Whole Sign & Placidus House Systems

In astrology, a natal chart is divided into 12 life areas (i.e. "houses").

And there are lots of different ways to calculate them.

For the past year, Star Path has only offered Whole Sign (an ancient Greek system where every life area is the same size / importance, and has one ruling zodiac sign).

Now, you can also use Placidus.

(scroll down for instructions on how to do it)

What is a Placidus house system?

Placidus is a "modern" house system (popularized in the 1600's by the monk Placidus de Titis).

It uses a time-based approach to calculating houses - which means they can be different sizes, contain 2 (or more) zodiac signs, and give different "weights" to each life area.

Some people prefer Placidus because it's more specific (and thus more personalized).

It also has more layers of interpretation: Interceptions (when a sign is "sandwiched" in between 2 others, in a single house) can tell you what themes were suppressed earlier in life - and what need to be developed to "unlock" a more authentic version of you. Partial signs (when a small chunk of a zodiac sign lives at the end of a house) can show you how a certain live area evolves - or resolves - over time.

Placidus is great for exploring how we evolve.

Especially for a single life area (like career, or relationships).

When you follow the "story" of multiple zodiac signs (inside a single house), you get a picture of someone who... Starts out really buttoned up in life (e.g. Capricorn rising), but becomes more free spirited age they age (Aquarius in the 1st house), or... Begins a career built on nurturing (e.g. Cancer MC), then learns to take up more space over time (Leo in the 10th house) etc.

Personally?

I started my astrology journey with Placidus - and switched over to a Hellenistic / Whole Sign approach.

But the only way to find your favorite system is to explore them all :)

#How to turn on Placidus

##1 - Log into Star Path, click your name in the lower left corner, and select "Settings".

##2 - Choose "Placidus"

##3 - Start a new chat.

This is important: if you've been chatting in Whole Sign, you'll need to start a new chat for Star Path to reference your Placidus chart.

You can see what system you're using above the message box.

The truth is...there's no "right" or "wrong" house system.

There's only the system that feels right to you - in this season of life.

Some people use Placidus for "mundane" matters (like day to day planning), and Whole Sign to understand their soul's journey.

Others pick one system, and use it for everything.

You might even find that different house systems resonate for you in different seasons of life...

...and that's ok.

At the end of the day, astrology is just a tool to help us understand ourselves - and it can be incredibly powerful to change the "lens" through which we see who we are.

My recommendation?

Explore them all. Use the one that feels right, right now.

And if you feel like you're ready for a change? Or like you're stuck in an old story?

Maybe switch house systems. It'll give you a fresh perspective on who you are...or who you could be.

Frequently Asked Questions

What house system should I use for my birth chart?

Star Path lets you use either a Whole Sign or Placidus house system - and you should pick the one that resonates most with your life experience. Here are some details to help you choose: Whole Sign is the oldest house system (used by the ancient Greeks). It treats all life areas equally, and gives each a single zodiac sign. For that reason, some people find that it captures the soul's journey in a deeper, more archetypal way. That's why it's our personal favorite at Star Path. Placidus is a "modern" house system (invented in the 1600's). It uses different-sized, time-based houses that contain 1, 2 or more signs. Some people find it to be more accurate, especially for "mundane" matters like planning, because individual charts have more variance (and the interpretation has more layers). The truth is, there's no right or wrong house system when it comes to astrology; there's only the system that feels most true for you. Start with one, explore another, and with time, you might even use both for different aspects of life. In our experience, Whole Sign can be more beginner-friendly, so it's a great starting point if you're new too astrology. But why not try them all?

What's the difference between Whole Sign & Placidus?

There are many house systems in astrology - and each is good at different things. Whole Sign (the OG house system) uses equal house sizes - and gives each a single zodiac sign. Placidus (a "modern" house system from the 1600's) defines house size based on time - giving them different sizes, and potentially multiple zodiac signs. In some ways, Whole Sign is simpler because it lacks interceptions (i.e. signs that are sandwiched in between two other signs, all in a single house), and gives each life area a single guiding theme. But this can also make it a very powerful system when exploring the deepest yearnings of a soul in this lifetime - the core needs & experiences we're here eto have. Placidus, in contrast, has more complex, layered interpretations. In the view of evolutionary astrologers, having multiple signs in a single house can show us how a life area "evolves" over time. This can be useful as we move through life, and step into new versions of who we are (especially with regard to themes like money, or love, or career). The beauty is: you can use Whole Sign & Placidus together. In fact, the Star Path team believes this is the best way to explore personal growth - because switching systems takes us out of a "story", or echo chamber, and invites us to look at ourselves from multiple perspectives. You might find that Whole Sign resonates most with you during one season of life, and Placidus feels "right" 10 years later. Or, you might prefer planning with Placidus, but personal growth with Whole Sign. Our recommendation: explore both. See what lands, leave what doesn't. And remember...astrology is just a tool for evolution (you're still in charge).

Why is Star Path different from other AI astrologers?

The Pattern, AskSoma.ai, and Sanctuary are astrology apps that use AI. Star Path flips the script: it's a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. This means you can use it just like ChatGPT or Claude - for therapy, business strategy, or self-discovery - with all the features of an AI chat platform (plus the rigorously accurate math of a professional astrologer). This lets you go deeper, and immediately use what you learn about your birth chart in practical ways.

Why is Star Path better than Chani, The Pattern, and AskSoma.ai?

When it comes to AI astrology, Star Path is frequently compared to apps like Chani, the Pattern and Co-Star. But the truth is, Star Path is more than an AI astrologer: it’s a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. Traditional astrology apps like Chani and Co-Star feed you astrology; an AI chat platform like Star Path helps you use astrology in daily life. While mainstream astrology apps might help you understand who you are, Star Path lets you go deep so you can reach for your goals, heal what's holding you back, and tactically plan out your next steps (e.g. launches, vacations, big decisions). And because Star Path lets you chat extensively with other people's charts, you can even use our AI astrology platform to improve your relationships. Star Path leverages dynamic, advanced astrology tools for transits, synastry and astrocartography, so you can ask free-form questions (like, "where's the best place to live for career?", or "what's the best timing for me to move?") and explore in-depth answers. You get to guide your own experience, which can feel very different from astrology apps that provide more static information.
