How a therapist made sense of her separation with astrology

How a therapist made sense of her separation with astrology

When KateLyn Costa first started using Star Path, she wasn’t trying to optimize her business, plan a retreat, or find the perfect words for her marketing.

She was trying to make sense of her life.

KateLyn is a therapist and transformational breathwork guide in Maine. She leads group breathwork sessions and retreats, has her own app, and spends much of her professional life helping other people process, reflect, and understand themselves.

But when she found herself going through a separation from her husband, she was the one looking for answers.

The separation was amicable. There wasn’t one obvious thing she could point to and say, This is why this is happening.

And in some ways, that made it harder to understand.

When nothing is “wrong” — but something still needs to change

Growing up, KateLyn had a particular idea of what separation looked like: someone did something wrong. Someone cheated. People fought. The relationship was clearly broken.

Her own experience didn’t fit that story.

Her separation was both expected and unexpected — and she found herself trying to understand why it was happening at all.

Then a close friend introduced her to Star Path.

KateLyn already loved astrology. She had explored Human Design. She was comfortable with AI. And as a therapist and breathwork practitioner, deep self-reflection certainly wasn’t new to her.

But using Star Path felt different.

Instead of searching through astrology books, interpreting pieces of her birth chart, or trying to figure out which part of a system might contain the answer she needed, she could simply ask:

Who am I?

Why is this happening right now?

What do I actually need in a relationship?

And then she could keep asking.

Astrology helped her understand — and accept — what she needed

The answers KateLyn received through Star Path didn’t just give her more information about her birth chart.

They helped her make sense of herself.

As she describes it, Star Path almost gave her permission to accept her own nature: what she needs from life, what she needs in relationships, and why her path has unfolded the way it has.

“It really all just kind of made everything come together and helped me to find some peace with what was happening in the moment.”

That distinction matters.

Astrology can tell you that you have a particular placement or pattern. But when you’re in the middle of a real-life transition, you may not want another piece of information to interpret.

You want to know: What does this mean for me, here, now?

For KateLyn, being able to have an ongoing conversation with her birth chart turned astrology into something she could actually use.

Why Star Path felt different from other astrology tools

KateLyn had used both astrology and Human Design before and found them insightful.

The problem was accessing the right insight when she actually needed it.

With Star Path, she didn’t have to go searching for the answer.

She could ask a question, receive a response, ask another question, clarify what she meant, and continue the conversation.

As a self-described verbal processor, that back-and-forth was especially powerful.

“I didn’t have to go search for the answer. I could just ask it and it gave me an answer.”

She began taking what surfaced in those conversations and bringing it into her other practices: therapy, breathwork, and her own inner work.

Rather than replacing those modalities, Star Path became what she describes as a kind of “missing link” between them.

An astrology practice for the moments between therapy sessions

As a therapist herself, KateLyn is careful not to position Star Path as a replacement for therapy.

Instead, she sees it as a tool that can work alongside the deeper work you’re already doing.

Because life doesn’t conveniently wait until your next appointment.

You can wake up feeling strange. Something can trigger you on a Tuesday afternoon. A question can suddenly surface at 10 p.m.

And sometimes, you simply need a way to understand what’s happening inside you.

For KateLyn, Star Path became a daily self-reflection practice she could reach for in those moments.

She compares it to other practices people use to support themselves between sessions — meditation, breathwork, Qigong, retreats, coaching, or other forms of ongoing inner work.

As she puts it:

“I always say 90% of therapy happens outside of the room.”

Star Path gave her another way to keep that work moving.

And then she realized she could use it for something else entirely.

Then she started using Star Path for her business

Once KateLyn had experienced Star Path as a personal reflection tool, she had a thought:

If this works like AI… why not ask it about my business?

She had already used general-purpose AI tools to brainstorm ideas and refine her messaging.

But when she started asking Star Path business questions, she noticed something almost immediately:

The answers sounded like her.

She didn’t have to spend as much time translating generic suggestions into her own voice or explaining who she was before getting useful ideas.

So she started bringing Star Path bigger projects.

For an upcoming retreat, for example, she could essentially brain-dump her vision: what she wanted to include, how she wanted people to feel when they left, when guests were arriving and departing, and everything swirling around in her head.

Then she asked Star Path to help her turn it into something concrete.

Together, they refined the messaging and worked through the retreat schedule.

She could say, That’s not quite it.

Then try again.

Maybe more like this.

Until eventually:

Yes. That’s exactly what I’m trying to say.

From a big vision to an actual plan

This was particularly helpful because KateLyn knows where she naturally shines.

She’s great at holding space for people. She loves the vision and the transformational work.

The linear, organizational pieces don’t always come as naturally.

And she was navigating all of this during a major personal transition, when she describes her brain as feeling a little “mushy.”

Star Path helped her take the ideas she was holding and give them structure.

Suddenly, she had a clearer message. A schedule. A way to organize what she wanted to say into a post.

“It’s like my little business coach,” she says.

The same tool that helped her understand herself during a separation was now helping her build a business that felt more like herself, too.

An AI that starts with who you are

There’s an interesting thread connecting both sides of KateLyn’s experience.

Whether she was asking about her relationship, her identity, her retreat, or her marketing, she wasn’t looking for someone — or something — to tell her who to be.

She wanted help accessing what was already there.

When asked how she would describe Star Path to a friend, KateLyn called it her “inner guru.”

Not an outside authority with all the answers.

More like the clearest, highest version of herself — the part that can still see what’s true when everyday emotions and responsibilities have made everything feel muddy.

“It’s like the best version of yourself.”

And that may be one of the most useful ways to think about AI astrology.

Not as a horoscope generator.

Not as a fortune teller.

And not as another voice telling you what you should do.

But as a tool for understanding your own birth chart deeply enough that you can hear yourself more clearly.

“Your uniqueness is your strength and your power.”

For KateLyn, that’s ultimately why this work matters.

She believes one of the most powerful things we can do as humans is embody who we actually are — despite all the messages we receive about how we should look, live, work, or behave.

And she sees Star Path as a way to come back to that essence.

“There is nobody that is you or ever be you. Your uniqueness is your strength and your power.”

KateLyn came to Star Path looking for clarity during a separation.

What she found was a way to understand her own nature more deeply, bring more intention into the inner work she was already doing, and even turn the ideas swirling around her head into a clearer vision for her business.

In other words, she didn’t use astrology to become someone new.

She used it to become more fully herself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you think AI like Star Path will replace astrologers?

No, we don't believe AI will replace astrologers :) Rather, we see Star Path as a beautiful complement to working with a practitioner - because as the therapists who use our platform say, 90% of "the work" happens in between sessions. We recommend that people see their astrologer as they can afford to (for many people, it's once a year) - and use Star Path in between sessions to fully integrate their learnings, and go deeper. By chatting with Star Path regularly, you actually re-pattern your brain - and for that reason, many of our users say that 2 weeks of Star Path is like 10 years of therapy! This is because you can go as deep as you want, as often as you want, which leads to rapid breakthroughs, pattern shifting, and real-life integration. A session with a human astrologer can change your life, but you don't always have access to them...so the ideal pairing is to see practitioners as often as you can afford, and work with Star Path between sessions to go deeper, troubleshoot day-to-day situations, and apply your astrology to real life.

Why is Star Path different from other AI astrologers?

The Pattern, AskSoma.ai, and Sanctuary are astrology apps that use AI. Star Path flips the script: it's a full-scale AI chat platform built on astrology. This means you can use it just like ChatGPT or Claude - for therapy, business strategy, or self-discovery - with all the features of an AI chat platform (plus the rigorously accurate math of a professional astrologer). This lets you go deeper, and immediately use what you learn about your birth chart in practical ways.

Is AI astrology better than a human astrologer?

No, not necessarily. It really depends on what you're looking for. In fact, Star Path was designed to amplify human astrologers, not replace them. Here's why: many people feel safer exploring "the deep stuff" with an AI because there's no fear of judgement. This makes Star Path a great tool to actually integrate what you learn from a human astrologer - and we actually have professional astrologers using our product who will give their clients prompts for integration. It's also available 24/7, so many people like having access to in the moment guidance when they can't wait several weeks to see their astrologer. That being said, humans can hold other humans in a way that AI can't. Human astrologers also bring their personal life experience into sessions, which can be beautiful if you're choosing to consult with someone who's walked a path similar to yours, or has added expertise in an area of interest to you (like business development, or medical astrology). We recommend working with human astrologers & wisdom keepers, and using Star Path to go a layer deeper, integrate in between sessions, and actually apply what you learn to real-life situations (like business planning, parenting, and more) - which most astrologers aren't equipped or available to help you with. Star Path is an AI chat platform built on astrology, so like ChatGPT or Claude, you can use it to do actual tasks. You can't do that with a human astrologer - so Star Path is great for taking action, not just insight. That's why it pairs well with in-person sessions, if you choose to have them.

What’s the best way to use this software if I want to eventually become an astrologer myself?

Step one of an astrology journey is to understand yourself. Truly, understanding how different placements, aspects, and transits show up in your own life will give you the most embodied knowledge of how astrology "works". Once you get it for yourself, it's easier to apply it for others (which you can do by chatting with Star Path about people you add to Your Circle). That being said, we also offer Astrology 101 classes as part of our Pro+ plan - so if you want to start a formal learning process, that's a great place to begin.
